Active Release Therapy The Gold Standard in Soft-Tissue Treatment
Used by elite athletes, Olympic teams, and accident recovery programs worldwide. ART treats the root cause — not just the symptoms — of muscle, tendon, ligament, fascia, and nerve problems.
What Is ART?
A Patented System for Overuse and Injury Conditions
Active Release Therapy (ART) is a patented, state-of-the-art soft-tissue system that treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia, and nerves. It was developed by Dr. P. Michael Leahy, a chiropractor who observed that his patients' symptoms were related to changes in their soft tissue that could be felt by hand.
By manipulating these tissues with precisely directed tension combined with specific patient movements, Dr. Leahy found he could resolve over 90% of his patients' problems. Today, ART is used by professional sports teams, Olympic programs, and personal injury recovery practices worldwide.
Dr. Jensen is ART Full-Body Certified — one of relatively few chiropractors in the Mansfield–Arlington area to hold this credential. Every session is both an examination and a treatment.
How Overuse Conditions Develop
The result: Dense scar tissue binds tissues that need to move freely, restricts circulation, and irritates nerves — creating pain, weakness, reduced range of motion, and tingling or numbness.
What to Expect
Every Session Is Both an Exam and a Treatment
Hands-On Evaluation
Dr. Jensen uses his hands to evaluate the texture, tightness, and movement of muscles, fascia, tendons, ligaments, and nerves. Abnormal tissue has a distinctly different feel from healthy tissue.
Directed Tension + Movement
Abnormal tissues are treated by combining precisely directed tension with very specific patient movements. There are over 500 ART protocols — each targeting a particular structure.
Release and Restore
As adhesions break up, blood flow returns, nerves decompress, and movement is restored. Most patients notice significant improvement within 3–6 sessions.
Conditions Treated
ART Works for a Wide Range of Conditions
From post-accident soft-tissue injuries to chronic overuse conditions, ART addresses the underlying cause — not just the symptom.
Why Both Together
ART + Chiropractic: Better Together
Chiropractic adjustments restore proper joint motion and alignment. ART releases the soft-tissue adhesions that caused or resulted from that misalignment. Treating the joint without treating the surrounding tissue is like straightening a picture while leaving a loose nail in the wall — it won't hold.
At Mansfield Spinal Care, both approaches are delivered in the same visit, under one roof, by the same provider — Dr. Jensen, who is credentialed in both.
