What Makes a Great Chiropractor: More Than Just Technique
A Note from Dr. Jensen
I've been practicing chiropractic care for a long time, and I still think about what it means to do this work well. Technical skill matters — absolutely. But over the years, I've come to believe that the qualities that truly distinguish an excellent chiropractor go well beyond what happens at the adjusting table.
Here's what I've personally strived for, and what I think every patient deserves.
The Qualities That Matter Most
1. Listening Before Touching
A patient walks in and tells me their back hurts. But what I really need to understand is how it hurts, when it started, what makes it better or worse, and what's getting in the way of their daily life. The adjustment comes after a real conversation — not instead of one. Research consistently shows that patients who feel genuinely heard report better outcomes and greater satisfaction with their care. That's not a surprise to me. It's something I've seen in my own practice for years.
2. Explaining Things in Plain Language
Your spine shouldn't be a mystery to you. When I can explain what's happening in your body clearly — without drowning you in anatomy terms — you become an active participant in your own recovery. You understand why I'm recommending what I'm recommending. You know what to watch for at home. That kind of informed partnership leads to better results than passive treatment ever will.
3. Genuine Investment in Your Outcome
There's a difference between a provider who sees patients and one who genuinely cares whether they get better. I think about the people I work with between visits — whether a specific approach is working, whether we need to adjust the plan, whether something they mentioned last week is improving. Care should be personal, not transactional. Three in four patients who see a chiropractor describe their experience as "very effective" — and I believe that number climbs when the provider is truly invested in the person, not just the symptom.
4. Willingness to Collaborate
A great chiropractor knows what chiropractic care can and cannot do. When a patient needs imaging, a specialist, or a primary care physician's input, the right answer is always to pursue that — not to stay in our own lane out of pride. I've built relationships with medical providers in the DFW area precisely because I believe coordinated care produces the best outcomes. Your health doesn't fit neatly into one discipline, and your care team shouldn't either.
5. A Commitment to Ongoing Learning
The research on spinal health, rehabilitation, and pain science keeps evolving. I take continuing education seriously — not because I have to, but because my patients deserve a provider who stays current. What we knew ten years ago isn't always what we know today, and that ongoing learning shapes how I approach every adjustment, every exercise recommendation, every conversation.
Why This Matters for You
Whether you're dealing with low back pain, recovering from an injury, managing recurring stiffness, or simply trying to stay mobile and healthy as the years go by — you deserve chiropractic care that treats you as a whole person. Technique is the foundation. Everything else is what builds trust, drives real results, and makes the work meaningful.
I'm proud of the practice we've built at Mansfield Spinal Care, and I don't take lightly that you place your health in our hands.

Three times today — mid-morning, after lunch, and mid-afternoon — stand up and do this: walk for 30 seconds, roll your shoulders slowly five times forward and five times back, then do five gentle hip hinges (think of taking a small bow) or seated back extensions if you're at a desk. It takes two minutes and costs nothing. Small, consistent movement breaks like this can quietly undo a surprising amount of the tension that builds up during a long workday.
